This Father’s Day, Give Dad the Gift of Friendship
It has been said that “the best gift you can give someone is your time, because you’re giving them something you can never get back.” This Father’s Day, we want you to give your dad your time, and take it one step further by giving him the gift of time spent with friends.
If you live nearby, it is likely that you have plans to spend the day with your dad. If not, you may be planning a phone call or video chat. Either way, many will come up with some sort of gift as well – a round of golf, a nice dinner out, some new tools, an excursion, the options are endless.
While these are all great, our favourites are the gifts that involve time spent together or with others.
Friendships and social contact are important for everyone, no matter their age. For example, a Harvard study of more than 309,000 people found that a lack of strong relationships had an effect on a person’s mortality that was comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Conversely, those with strong relationships have shown to have fewer health problems and live longer.
As our parents age, they are more prone to loneliness and social isolation due to decreased mobility, lack of transportation options or because they live alone or away from family. It is important not to underestimate the impact this can have.
Adult children are busy with their own kids, their in-laws, work, keeping house; so while Father’s Day is the perfect opportunity to spend quality time together, it is also a great time to set Dad up for social growth and interaction.
Amintro is the social app exclusively for those 50 plus looking to live a more socially engaged life. Free to join, Amintro can help Dad connect with like-minded people in his own community, forming friendships both in person and online. Signing up is easy, and while you could do it on your dad’s behalf we recommend going through the process together. This way you can show him how the app works, help answer any questions and offer encouragement to see it through.
This is not a dating site, all members have the same goal which is to form platonic friendships and live life to its fullest. Through Amintro your dad will be able to connect with others confidently online and then head out into the community to enjoy all that it has to offer, in the company of others.
Registration is open on our website or download the app from Google Play or the App Store. Learn more about us, our community and how to become an Amintronian by following us on Twitter: @AmintroLiving, or liking us on Facebook: AmintroLiving.
